We live in a terrorised society, and if you doubted that reminders have been wide-rife in recent weeks, culminating in a ratcheting up of the terralert to yam purple. It's a wonderful time to be involved in American forms of social control, as Tes Jowl confirmed with the supercasino splash. Home Sec Reid has made it clear that he is on the case - actual terror plotters will be rounded up with innocent brownskins (a stay in Cuba optional) for intentionally bewildering effect. He announced plans (after the first round of arrests in Birmingham) to detain the islamofacists for far more than a February-month. Though the government would go on to charge some of the Muslim soldier mitherers, two people were released early from the first round of arrests, just more justification for government continuing the 'debate' about the 90-day detention period. If the Blair government is good at anything, it's a total refusal to accept the will of parliament. Tony can always find a way through - a turd way. And who was it that told the press about the plot to kill a British serviceman, was it the police or the government? The release of details to the press breeds a very unhealthy relationship and I suspect that populist idiot Reid ensured that even before they had even arrested everyone the ‘campaigning; Murdoch press were informed of the details of this investigation/plot; the only people that didn't know about the plot were those that were arrested. Indeed if you were conducting a counter-terrorist investigation and you hadn't charged anyone would you want the proposed plot be publicised in such a way to damage the collection of evidence? Three sures no. Reid's business left Tony free to concentrate on vanity shoots aside restive MPs (in front of the Union Spack). Party mouthpieces were quick to fill the devoid. There was a stark piece of racial exploitation from Birmingham MP Steve McCabe, extrapolating the squaddie beheader scare to accuse the city council for a ‘narrow view of community relations' for failing only to reassure Moslems about coping with fanatix aka Why Should They Get All The Attention? McCabe pointed out that the council made no moves to reassure any other communities even though they could very well be living among people who were plotting to kidnap, torture and behead Muslims serving in the British army. Mr McCabe, there will be right wing groups seeking to exploit this ‘terror plot' and among them will be Labour MPs in Birmingham seeking selection when the number of parliamentary constituencies in Brum is reduced by one at the next election. We're not sure that he doesn't support persecution of Muslims because of a handful of people 'living in their midsts', but then his roving eye is necessarily subjective and maybe he genuinely feels that other 'communities' (such as they aren't) like maybe Sikhs and Hindus are under the same pressure as Muslims. This was helpfully added to by the Sun, not just there but with more characteristic perfidy here in October. The claims that calls were made to the army barracks were since proved to be without any foundation and the Sun apologised on 15 January - "On Wednesday a Muslim dairy was firebombed"... The contributions from Migration Watch's Ambassador for Odium and Philip Davies (Tory MP for Shipley) about racial tension in Windsor are illustrative of the fascist agenda at work in this ‘story'. We're thinking that it's they who should fuck off. With such rabid demonisation combining with politicisation of police work, unscrupulous members of the Muslim community might be tempted to use the government's desperation to arrest some Muslims on suspicion of terrorism (with attendant media glare) as a way of settling scores within their community. That's only one of the risks this bunch of fevered oafs is running at the moment. Ultra spiv Reid and his management guru ministerial sidekick, Liam Byrne MP, recently 'took control' of the Home Office press office for a weekend, in order to rebut stories and counter negative press coverage. What a hard man. Disinformation's the priority for the Home Office at the moment. Wouldn't it be better to try and get departments to talk to one another, rather than spin spin spin terror-ier-ist news stories? Not in their name. So Homeland Security UK continues to perjure itself into a crisis. This is just another reason why we need Biometric data, Border Police, Iris Scans, Phone Tapping (again, coming soon from America), Lie Detector tests and more Border Police to stop this kind of thing happening. With the threat from exploding human projectiles and medievalist mujihadeen now clear, Cull advises the meek of heart to dig an ivory bunker in their garden which will serve as a pleasant but serious reminder to all who sail in it of the risks inherent in border crossings and foreigners generally. Reid's lessons are clear: public opinion will continue to be exploited in order to intimidate back benchers, and try to fiddle the state and they'll start fiddling with you (or your mates).
